For Army Air Corps officers from 1940 to 1945, input below either their name or serial number, and press enter, and if the officer is in this database, a separate webpage will open up and show you the informaion in the database. This will not work for enlisted men. When entering the serial number, if this starts with what appears to be the letter "o" or a zero, it is the letter "o," and you may enter either an upper or lower case "o."
This site is to help relatives and researchers identify Air Corps and Air Force officers, from a name or serial number. There are many websites with enlisted men's serial numbers and their enlistment information, but this might be the first for officers.
The data behind this site was created by Steven Eugene Burris, 1953-2022, pictured at right. He had the idea for this project in the mid-1980s, and spent more than thirty years and thousands of hours inputting data from fight school yearbooks into a Microsoft Access file for mroe than 293,000 officers. In February 2021, I, Seth P. Washburne, reserved this website name for Steven's database, and created a draft webpage, with the interactive database to be added later, and emailed Steven how it would look. He liked it and approved of this concept
On July 25, 2022, as a young, healthy, vibrant, optimistic person, Steven was sleeping on his back, when some stomach regurgitation stuck in his air passageway, preventing him from breathing, and in an immense tragedy he passed away. Steven's brother, Will, notified me of Steve's passing. and offered to mail me the database. In September 2022, I activated this site, including the interactive database.
At the bottom of this page is Steven's full obituary. If his database was of help to you, please email me so I may add your thankful comment on this page. .
Your research help would also be greatly appreciated. If you have any orders from flying schools, or flying school graduation books, please contact me. I am seeking more information on the graduating classes in the table below which are NOT shaded. This table is for Advanced Schools, but I also want to find records for schools of Primary and Basic Training.
Please contact me for additional information of if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

Stephen Eugene Burris, 69, died on July 25th, 2022 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Formerly of Wichita, Kansas, he was a long time member of the SCA and enjoyed archery and researching the Army Air Force of WWII. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Burris, a brother, William; and three sisters, Melinda Sneary (Larry Hinton), Raelane Schnacker (Lonnie) and Carol Burris; and many nieces & nephews. A Graveside Service will be held at 10 am, Friday August 5th, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
I am the historian for the U.S. Army Air Corps !3th Troop Carrier Squadron, nicknamed "The Thirsty 13th." From 2015 to 2021, I tried to identify each squadron member by their birthday. In a newsletter March 2017, I listed 21 pilots from this squadron who I could not identify by a birth day, e.g. a James Taylor. Somehow, Steven found my website and newsletter, and emailed me in December 2017 he might be able to help me. During the next four years, Steven identified many these pilots who I may never have identified. I will always be thankful for Steven Burris.
